How Many Lithium Batteries Are Needed to Supply a 5kW 110V Inverter?

To power a 5kW 110V inverter, the number of lithium batteries you need depends on battery voltage, capacity, and how long you plan to run the inverter. A 5kW inverter requires 5000W of continuous power, which equals 5kWh per hour of operation.

For example, if you use Amensolar’s 51.2V 100Ah lithium battery, each unit provides about 5.12kWh of energy (realistically around 4.6kWh usable due to safety discharge limits). To run a 5kW inverter for 1 hour, you need at least 2 of these batteries. For longer runtimes, simply multiply:

2 batteries = 1 hour
4 batteries = 2 hours
6 batteries = 3 hours, and so on.
